Construction for the P Street District is in full swing this spring, with work being done along P and 14th Streets.  DLA and several businesses are excited to announce upcoming plans and promotions to encourage exploration of the district.

P Street businesses know the work in the district can be disruptive, so they encourage all patrons and visitors to continue to come and explore while work is in process.

“The completed P Street improvements will make Downtown Lincoln an even more vibrant destination; however, we need to make sure that our potential visitors are aware that this district is still very much alive during the construction process,” said Ashlie Hadden, Owner of Embellish | Cuff.

Several new features indicate the district’s vibrancy during the upcoming spring and summer months.

* Shop the Blocks – A Downtown Lincoln Shopping Event which highlights approximately 20 shops open late and offering food, drinks, discounts, appetizers, limos and prizes.  To reserve your All-Access Pass for future Shop the Blocks events, or for more information, visit shoptheblocks.com.

* Marcus Theatre’s UltraScreen® – The Grand Theatre recently opened its newest theatre, which includes a razor sharp three-story tall picture, crystal clear digital sound and memory foam stadium seats.

* Downtown Gift Card Promotion – During the construction months, patrons of several businesses in the project area will be entered into a monthly drawing for Downtown Gift Cards up to $100 that can be used at over 200 downtown locations.

* Zoo Fest – The Zoo Bar’s 41st annual blues street festival will be held on 14th Street between O and P Street on July 11th and 12th.

Parking Vouchers – The city will offer a select number of free parking vouchers for P Street businesses to provide to their customers.

* The Cat in the (Hard) Hat – A Novel Idea Bookstore is embracing the project and will offer The Cat in the (Hard) Hat Children’s Book Sale in a few weeks.
“We’re excited about all of the new features we are getting in this project,” said Cinnamon Dokken, owner of A Novel Idea Bookstore.  “It’s like a kitchen remodel. You may have to do your dishes in the bathtub for a while – but it’s worth it to get a great end result.  In the meantime, we are having as much fun with this as possible.”

The project area is along P Street between 11th Street and Centennial Mall as well as the east side of 14th Street between O and Q Streets. Features of the project include a total redesign of the streetscape, parking and rights-of-way, incorporating specialized lighting, wood decks, plants and public spaces including the Civic Plaza project at 13th and P Streets. Completion of the project is scheduled for the end of August this year.
