The Downtown Lincoln Association (DLA) is proud to announce that they have been awarded with the first place national award from Keep America Beautiful (KAB) for their efforts in waste reduction and recycling.  This award is given to organizations with outstanding programs that promote waste reduction through wise waste handling practices such as reduce, reuse, and recycle.

George Pinkerton, DLA Maintenance Director, is proud of his maintenance team for receiving national recognition. “DLA is a leader in all areas in which Keep America Beautiful has an affiliated focus on litter reduction, recycling and greening/beautification; in addition, we attempt to conserve water and energy, purchase locally manufactured equipment when possible and provide employment for the developmentally disabled.”

KAB, an environmental organization that has been cleaning up American communities with the help of thousands of volunteers for nearly 60 years, gives out national awards annually in the categories of beautification/community greening, litter prevention and waste reduction/recycling.

Restaurant & Retail News

Hour Lounge Celebrates Downtown Opening: A few weeks ago, the former Woody’s Pub & Grill changed ownership and turned its keys over to Heath Macomber and Rick Willmott.  Since then, the business partners and new owners have been transforming the 14th & O Street location into a classy urban bar.  Hour Lounge officially opened its doors on December 22nd.  Their hours are 4:00 p.m.-2:00 a.m. Monday through Friday, and 7:00 p.m.-2:00 a.m. on Saturday.

The establishment caters to the young-adult professional crowd that enjoys the downtown atmosphere but is making the transition from college bars to the more sophisticated lounge scene.  During the week, they will offer happy hour specials and entertainment, and on the weekends, patrons can party on the dance floor or socialize in the lounge areas that are tucked away from the bumping DJ booth.

Proven Nutrition, a locally owned nutrition store, recently opened its doors downtown at 1225 P Street. Three former UNL wrestlers, Frank Jonas, Brad Canoyer and Kyle Canoyer, decided to start their own store with a goal to provide people with a means for a healthier lifestyle.  Proven Nutrition plans to achieve this goal by providing knowledge and nutrition supplements to the public, which will help aid weight management, bulk muscle and develop healthy lifestyles. For more information on Proven Nutrition visit www.provennutrition.net or call 402.742.0202.
