The Downtown Street Resurfacing Project will stretch over 6 miles and 11 streets in downtown Lincoln. Workers from Pavers Inc. will be milling off two inches of existing driving surfaces and overlay them with new asphalt, pedestrian curb ramps that don’t meet ADA standards will be reconstructed and seven traffic signals will be replaced.

The reconstruction of pedestrian curb ramps will take approximately two weeks, the replacement of the traffic signals will take approximately four weeks and the street resurfacing will last until November 2012. While other areas of deteriorated sidewalks, curbs or gutters will not be replaced during this project, they will be noted for future repair projects.

The pedestrian curb ramps being replaced are along K and L Streets from 9th to 17th Streets. Three of the traffic signals being replaced are on N Street (13th, 14th and Centennial Mall) and the four others are on Q Street (9th, 10th, 16th and 17th).

There will be no full street closures at this time, but the City is planning on closing select lanes to carry out construction during traffic. Pedestrian detour routes will be marked with signs for all work impacting sidewalk access.

Access to businesses, residences, and parking garages will be maintained, but there may be instances when access is limited. On-street parking will be temporarily impacted until work in or adjacent to those parking areas is completed.

The total cost of the project is estimated to be $5,240,000, and since 80% of the project will be federally funded, the local share of the project will be $1,087,000.
