The Nebraska Sports Council is inviting solo musicians across Nebraska to participate in its second annual National Anthem contest.  The winner will perform the Star Spangled Banner before an estimated crowd of 8,000 at this year’s Cornhusker State Games Opening Ceremonies.  Contestants have until April 22 to complete and submit their audition video.

The Opening Ceremonies, which takes place on July 20 at 8 p.m. at Seacrest Field in Lincoln, also features skydivers, fireworks, National Guard chopper fly-in, parade of athletes, an appearance by Miss Nebraska Amy Spilker and the lighting of the caldron by a mystery celebrity athlete.

There is no cost to enter the National Anthem contest.  Contestants, who must be solo performers, must upload their audition video to www.YouTube.com and email the link, along with their name, age, hometown, phone number and email address to ashley@nebraskasportscouncil.com by April 22.  A judging panel will then determine five finalists for online voting by the public via the Cornhusker State Games Facebook page after April 27th.

The video which receives the most likes by May 11th will determine the winning performer.

More than 12,000 are expected to participate, each receiving a free shirt, yearbook, meal ticket and admission to the Opening Ceremonies.
