Southeast Community College and Lincoln Public Schools officials have begun preliminary designs for the addition of a 100,000 to 125,000-square-foot building to the south side of the college’s existing building, which will host a proposed career center.   LPS Operations Director Scott Wieskamp said he hopes to make a formal presentation to the board this month with more concrete design plans.  Whatever the details, the building will be designed so it matches the existing building architecturally.

Last November, officials identified the 18 career clusters that would be taught at the center. Each career cluster would have a designated spot in the building, however, specific designs for each of those areas will not be finished until after the bond issue vote, when the curriculum will be firmed up.  Because it is a new concept for the district, it is hard for people to imagine exactly what it would look like, so LPS and SCC officials are working hard to come up with a schematic they can show the public as it considers the bond issue. School officials are also banking on businesses partnering on the project and hopefully contributing equipment or partial funding to help build the areas.
