H.U.G.S. (Helping Us Grieve Successfully) is a one day grief camp for youth, ages 5 – 18, and their caregivers who have experienced the death of someone significant in their lives. This year the camp will be held on Saturday, June 11th at the Lincoln Children’s Zoo from 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. The camp theme is based on a book by Barbara Betker McIntyre titled “Jungle Journey: Grieving & Remembering Eleanor the Elephant.”

The story is based on Eleanor the Elephant who for many years watched over the jungle at night so that all the other animals could safely sleep. When Eleanor becomes ill and dies, each animal responds differently to her death and mourns in their own ways.

The H.U.G.S. grief camp is an annual event, celebrating its 12th year in the community. The fee for the camp is $15.00 per family and includes the Zoo experience, lunch and youth T-shirts. Scholarships are also available.

Registration forms for the H.U.G.S. grief camp are now available; you can obtain a registration form at www.hugscamp.org or contact Nancy Gabelman, AseraCare Hospice, (402) 488-1363.
