SCIP Announces Upcoming Courses

School Community Intervention & Prevention (SCIP; www.scipnebraska.com) will begin offering 3-4 continuing education classes per year, which are specifically designed for mental health professionals and/or alcohol and drug counselors. The first, “Emerging Drug Trends Workshop,” will be held July 23 from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Jeremy Schwartz, drug recognition expert, will discuss the ever-changing drugs of abuse and prevailing trends as well as criminogenic needs. The second, “Youth and Trauma: Key Concepts in Understanding and Working with Traumatized Youth,” is scheduled for August 10 from 12:45-4:15 p.m. This course, taught by Mandy Hansen, LMHP, LPC, will help professionals who serve adolescents understand the prevalence of childhood trauma and its developmental impact. Both classes will be held at Southeast Community College’s Continuing Education Center. To register, go to www.scipnebraska.com/trainings_and_events/conferences-and-workshops.html.

SCIP is a program designed to bring together families, school and the community to support student behavioral and emotional health. For more information, visit www.scipnebraska.com or call (402) 327-6843.
