Southeast Nebraska Cancer Center Now Offering Certified Mastectomy Fitting Services

Tracy Bender, OTD and Courtney Driewer from the Southeast Nebraska Cancer Center (leadingcancercare.com) team recently obtained certification to become the first certified mastectomy fitters in Lincoln. A certified mastectomy fitter is a health professional who is specifically educated and trained in the provision of breast prostheses and post-mastectomy services. This can include fitting, adjusting or modifying devices that reflect the level of education and training received.

Tracy and Courtney meet with patients for an assessment, formulation of a treatment plan, implementation of the treatment plan and a follow-up plan. Common side effects of cancer treatment can be addressed with occupational therapy that can include lymphedema, scar tissue and adhesions, postural changes, chronic pain and weakness. Cancer rehabilitation can be initiated at any phase (before, during or after cancer treatment), and can reduce or eliminate the residual effects of cancer treatment. This will result in an increased quality of life for the cancer patient and their loved ones. This unique combination of cancer and occupation therapy fills the needs at each stage of our patients’ treatment and survivorship.

You do not have to be a patient at Southeast Nebraska Cancer Center for occupational therapy services. Call (402) 420-7000 to schedule an appointment or visit leadingcancercare.com for additional information.
