The Nebraska Sports Council has opened a statewide competition to determine the singer of the Star Spangled Banner at this year’s Cornhusker State Games Opening Ceremonies.

To enter, contestants must submit a video of their national anthem performance by May 15. A judging panel will determine five finalists and online voting between May 23 and June 10 will determine the winner. Videos may be emailed to layne@nebraskasportscouncil.com or mailed to Nebraska Sports Council, P.O. Box 29366, Lincoln, NE 68529. There is no cost to enter.

The winner earns the right to perform the anthem at the CSG Opening Ceremonies on July 15 and the Lincoln Saltdogs game on June 27. Entrants are required to include their name, age, hometown, phone number and email address with their contest video. Contestants must be Nebraska residents, and lodging will be provided if the winner lives more than 50 miles from Lincoln.

NSC officials also announced that runners are still needed in most areas for the Cornhusker State Games Torch Run.  The Torch Run, sponsored by the Nebraska Air National Guard and Army National Guard, begins on June 1 west of Scottsbluff and will return to Lincoln on June 27. Applicants will be assigned segments in one-mile increments on a first-come, first-served basis.
