Above and beyond is the only way Pete Dennis knows to serve others. Whether that meant adopting the children he had already opened his home to as a foster parent, or being available anytime, day or night, for the foster families he works with in his role at CEDARS.

Dennis’ efforts to impact lives was recently recognized as he was awarded the Lucy Nevels Child Care Worker of the Year award by the Nebraska Association of Homes & Services for Children. The award was presented to Dennis for demonstrating a level of support for children, youth and families that shows true compassion and understanding for each child.

The Nebraska Association of Homes and Services for Children works to promote and improve quality in the continuum of care for Nebraska children and their families through advocacy, education, cooperative efforts among members, and effective communication between providers and the State of Nebraska.

CEDARS provides care to nearly 3,500 children and youth each year and was founded in 1947 to help children who have been abused, neglected, and homeless achieve safety, stability, and enduring family relationships.
