Educare Lincoln Celebrates Their Diverse Families

Educare Lincoln (www.educareschools.org) has the amazing opportunity to serve families from all over the world.

With Lincoln’s role as an Immigration and Naturalization Service-receiving community, Educare of Lincoln is unique to the Educare network due to the fact that the families of children served include a large percentage of diverse immigrants.

According to our records, 57% of parents were born outside of the U.S., in 18 different countries, including Cameroon, Chad, China, Egypt, Eritrea, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Iraq, Ivory Coast, Libya, Mexico, Nigeria, El Salvador, Sudan, South Sudan, Syria, and United Arab Emirates. In addition, 13% of children were born outside the U.S. Parents reported that for 61% of children, the child’s first language is English, 22% Spanish, with 20% speaking first other languages, Arabic being the most prevalent.

Educare Lincoln prides themselves in being able to meet the challenges of serving such a diverse population of families.  In order to celebrate the diverse families served by Educare, a private Multi-Cultural Fair is held for these families every October. Families are supported and encouraged to bring food from their culture to share with other families and Educare employees. Families also enjoy sharing art, jewelry, and wearing clothes from their culture to help educate other families and Educare staff about their home countries and cultures. Last year, 30 families participated.
