HBAL Santa Cops Project Volunteers Build Homemade Gifts for Children in Need

The 2016 HBAL Santa Cops Project (www.hbal.org/members/photo-gallery/santa-cop-project) was held on November 5th and was yet another huge success! Approximately 90 members of the Home Builder’s Association of Lincoln (HBAL) and their families gathered together to build wooden toys, which will be gifted to local children this Christmas season.

In total, 72 wooden LEGO tables were constructed by the adult volunteers and will be distributed through the Center for People in Need’s Toyland for Kids program. This year’s project for the children who volunteered was little wooden robots, which will be delivered by HBAL’s Young Building Professionals group to Lancaster Rehabilitation Center.

It was a great feeling to see so many people willing to give time and effort to this project which helps Lincoln’s neediest families have a holiday to remember. Since the HBAL Santa Cops Project began in 1988, 1,982 wooden toys have been built and delivered to local children who might not otherwise receive a special gift. These have ranged from rocking horses and easels to trains and building blocks. It was especially wonderful to see children learning the joy of making something to give to others in need.
