Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach (www.mtkserves.org), Lincoln’s largest community kitchen and outreach center, teamed up with over 600 volunteers of all ages for the 19th Annual “Huskers Helping the Homeless”- the Best Defense against Hunger.  This year’s event was the weekend of October 9 – 11 for the Nebraska vs. Wisconsin football game, and more than $50,000 was raised in support of MTKO’s hunger relief and homeless prevention services!   Volunteers accepted monetary donations in the downtown area, Sam’s Club and Walmart stores, Russ’s Markets & Super Saver stores, and at SouthPointe Pavilions.

To celebrate the important role students have in this event, a trophy is awarded to the high school with the most registered volunteers on game day.  This year’s winner was Pius X High School!  Defending champs Lincoln East came in a close second.  Many other schools and colleges were represented.
