“It is with enormous gratitude after 40 wonderful years at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital, and serving as President and Chief Executive Officer for 26 or those years, that I am announcing my retirement effective January 16, 2016,” said Marsha Lommel, in front of Madonna staff members on June 9.

Madonna’s board of directors and sponsor, the Most Reverend James D. Conley, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Lincoln, have unanimously appointed Paul Dongilli, Ph.D., as Madonna’s next president and CEO upon Lommel’s retirement.

Lommel continued, “I am very proud of Madonna’s transformation into one of the most comprehensive and advanced rehabilitation hospitals in the country. Over the past five years, we have admitted patients from 45 states and every county in Nebraska. Last year alone, more than 500 physicians and 100 hospitals referred patients to Madonna. We c reated a model rehabilitation research institute that has invented rehabilitation technology now in use around the world. Our innovative approaches have received national awards and attracted visitors from as far away as China to study how advanced rehabilitation can rebuild lives. I want to thank the staff and the community for the confidence and support given me all these years.”

With Madonna’s Omaha Campus set to open in fall of 2016, together both campuses will position Madonna as a national leader in rehabilitation for generations to come. For more information, visit www.madonna.org.
