The Spring Into Reading book drive is seeking community donations this March of new or gently used preschool books for children in Lincoln’s Head Start and Early Head Start programs.

Book donations will impact nearly 700 preschool students and enhance the cognitive development that experts agree is so critical at this young age.

Book donations will be accepted March 10-25, 2011 at both Barnes and Noble Bookseller locations and all Lincoln YMCA Facility branches.  Books should be new or gently used, geared toward young children ages 0-5.

Head Start and Early Head Start programs are aimed at low-income families and, with the recession, book donations for these homes are more important than ever. “Having access to age-appropriate books helps parents better prepare their children for success once elementary school begins.” said Bowen.

The Spring Into Reading book drive is being organized and coordinated by Leadership Lincoln Fellows Class XXV. The book drive is the capstone activity of Class XXV following their year-long community leadership program.
