Tugboat Galley welcomes Omaha based artists Mike Scheef and J. Lynn Batten in presenting “Big Ten”, running August 5 – 29. The exhibition features new work by Scheef and Batten, resulting in a remarkable multi-media show.

From whimsical screenprints to non-traditional art objects, Big Ten presents a vast body of work, all aimed at examining the fine art world and the slowly eroding the borders it shares with mass communication.

Mike Scheef’s collection of drawings, prints and non-traditional art objects coincides with the release of his new book, EMZ Book Two, which will debut at the opening reception. Scheef’s work is a look at the subjects of art world politics, creativity and celebrity through the eyes of Eggman and his guest-collaborator, Sara Graf.

Taking inspiration from pop culture, advertising and propaganda, J. Lynn Batten’s mixed media pieces explore the dichotomy that exists between pure self-expression and mass-produced forms of communication.

The exhibit can be viewed during the normal Galley hours of Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 12 – 5 p.m..  Tugboat Gallery is located at 116 North 14th Street, on the second story of the Parish building above Gomez art supply.
