Verizon recently presented Friendship Home with a $10,000 donation for its Safe Quarters drive. Safe Quarters is the largest fundraiser for the domestic violence shelter, which also serves to raise awareness that the leading cause of injury for women ages 19-44, intimate partner violence.

On October 2, over 1700 volunteers canvassed the city requesting ‘safe quarters’ for battered women and their children at Friendship Home. Verizon’s generous sponsorship serves as a lifeline for these women and children who often leave their violent homes with nothing but the clothes they are wearing. “The funding Verizon and the community donates through our Safe Quarters drive will provide a warm bed, a nutritious meal, and vital advocacy for families at Friendship Home. With their help, we can be a haven for women and children who need a safe place to go,” said Amy Evans, executive director of Friendship Home.

If the volunteers missed your door on October 2, donations can be made at any Union Bank location through the end of October.
