Cappy’s Hotspot Bar & Grill Nightclub is one of Lincoln’s only sports bars and nightclubs all in one. Cappy’s provides patrons with great food, incredible live entertainment, and a small town friendly atmosphere.  Cappy’s has been in the Lincoln area since August of 2006 and is incorporated with GNS Corp., owned by Larry Coffey, and the bar is co-owned and managed by John Caporale (aka Cappy).

What do you think makes your business different from others?
The difference with Cappy’s bar compared to other bars in Lincoln is that Cappy’s has something different every night of the week.  Weekly entertainment includes: Texas Hold’em (the biggest in town), karaoke, Bar Pong Tournaments, Froggy 98 Country Night with live music, and the hottest local, regional, and national bands on the weekends.  Cappy’s also offers an incredible food menu which consists of mainly homemade dishes.

What do you like about doing business in the Lincoln area?
I love doing business in the Lincoln area for the simple fact that Lincoln is just a “big” small town.  Everyone knows everyone and being from the small town of Wymore, Nebraska, I enjoy the small town atmosphere.

What groups and community organizations are you involved with?
I am involved with numerous organizations; some of which include: The Better Business Bureau (which we have an A+ rating for two consecutive years), LIBA, Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, Nebraska Restaurant Association, and NLBA.  Very active sponsor of the various charitable organizations including: March of Dimes, Nebraska State Patrol Organization, and Police Officers of Lincoln Association.

Do you have a business philosophy or mission statement?
My philosophy on business is simple: treat your patrons/clients the way you want to be treated when in the same environment.  Hard work and dedication always pay off.  We work to live, don’t live to work.  (Easier said than done.)

What changes have you seen in your industry recently?
The only changes I have seen in the past few years with the economical decline is the use of credit cards as apposed to cash for payment of product.  Sales have actually increased each year, which is surprising with the economy.  A wise man once told me that by 2020 the only businesses left with actual people working in them will be barber shops and bars.  I sure hope he was right.

What do you see happening with your business in the next five years?
I see our business growing each year to come.  Five years from now I would hope the economy will have bounced back and all small businesses will see an increase.

What is the biggest challenge your business has faced?
The biggest challenge my type of business has faced in the most recent years is the increase of tickets being issued to driving under the influence.  Which, of course, I do not condone drinking and driving, but the increase in patrolling by the local police has definitely shown a change in late night crowds.

What has been your most important achievement as a business?
My most important achievement as a business would have to be the fund raisers we have been involved with over the years to help the unfortunate.  That might be a bit selfish or leans more towards personal gratification, but it’s because of the success of the business that in turn made the fund raisers successful.

What has been the biggest turning point of your business?
The biggest turning point of my business was definitely when we finally let the citizens of Lincoln know that Cappy’s was a brand new bar in this location and not to be compared to previous like businesses.

What is the one goal you’d most like to accomplish?
The only goal that has not yet been reached, but is in the workings, is to open another location in the Lincoln or surrounding area.
