Refinery Fitness, LLC is a fitness facility designed to promote health by providing an enjoyable environment with a knowledgeable staff that encourages exercise and  provides learning experiences to help individuals develop a personal responsibility for their health.

How long have you been in Lincoln?
We celebrated our 5 year anniversary in September! It has been an incredible time and I am so thankful for all our clients!

Who are the owners/important executives?
Key leadership for Refinery Fitness includes;
Carol Bozarth, owner and  Personal Trainer
Christina Lark, ACSM Personal Trainer
David Bishop, ACSM Health and Fitness Specialist

What do you think makes you different from other companies similar to yours?
We decided at the beginning to always be staffed. Our clients appreciate knowing that if they have a specific question about fitness or their diet that they are able to get them answered!  Our members all come from a variety of backgrounds and many have never been in a weight room before. Our qualified Personal Trainers give them the confidence to accomplish what they never thought possible!

What do you like about doing business in Lincoln?
Lincoln has always had a small town feel, and our clients are very loyal! As a business owner, that customer loyalty means a lot to us.

What kind of community organizations/groups are you involved with?
Refinery Fitness is a member of LIBA & IHRSA. As a fitness enthusiast, I enjoy participating in marathons and helping to raise monies for worthy causes while doing them! Team-in-training for the Leukemia Foundation and Breast Cancer Awareness are both causes that we support.

Do you have a business philosophy or mission statement?
Refinery Fitness has always wanted to teach individuals about health and wellness. It is when society takes ownership in their health that people see the biggest improvements in their lives!

What changes have you seen in the industry and your company in the past few years?
The fitness industry is seeing a growth from the retired community. As a society, our retirees are wanting to be active longer and are willing to hire Personal Trainers to help them accomplish their goals.

What do you see happening with the business in the next 5 years?
I would like Refinery Fitness to expand into a larger facility that would include large group classes.

What is one of the biggest challenges that your company has faced?
The internet has become a challenge to the fitness and nutrition industry. There are a lot of bloggers and so-called fitness experts who write about health topics, they post work-out videos, etc., but really don’t have a lot of expertise in the subject. Much of the information is inaccurate and dangerous! Just because it was written about on the internet or even a local paper doesn’t make it accurate.

What was the biggest turning point in your business?
Refinery Fitness first opened as a 1200 square foot facility. It wasn’t long before we needed to expand and now we have over 3000 square feet! I’m looking forward to the next phase of growth!

What is the most unique or interesting thing about your business that most people don’t know?
Refinery Fitness has the only Pink Ribbon Treadmill in Nebraska and everyone notices it when they visit our facility! The Cybex Corporation designed a couple of key pieces of equipment that are available in pink, specifically for breast cancer awareness and we participate with them in this fund-raising endeavor!

What is one goal for your business that you have yet to accomplish?
It would be awesome if Lincoln was voted as one of the healthiest places to live.  That would be a reflection of the level of expertise of all the local fitness facilities in Lincoln and the commitment to health of our city!
