Who are the owners/important executives?
Calvin and Richard Krueger.

What do you think makes you different from other companies similar to yours?
We control everything from moving dirt to laying carpet and everything in between. We only build for ourselves, so this makes it possible for us to customize each commercial and residential property to exactly meet the tenants’ needs.

What do you like about doing business in Lincoln?
We like to build where we live.  Being locally owned allows us to become a part of the community and help improve our home town through our work.  We also like to know that we are building for our friends and neighbors in the community.

What kind of community organizations/groups are you involved with?
HBAL (Home Builders Association of Lincoln), board member at Union College, Lincoln Chamber of Commerce and LIBA (Lincoln Independent Business Association).

Do you have a business philosophy or mission statement?
Bring as much value as we can to our lot buyers, residential tenants, and commercial users.

What changes have you seen in the industry and your company in the past few years?
The local building economy has slowed down and we have to deal with more and more regulations.

What do you see happening with the business in the next five years?
Generally, we see an improving business climate, which of course makes us happy as business owners who serve other business owners.

What is one of the biggest challenges that your company has faced?
Dealing with banking issues and governmental mandates.

What has been your most important achievement as a business?
Keeping the doors open and people employed.

What was the biggest turning point in your business?
Building the Lincoln Trade Center.  This was the first large commercial development that allowed small business owners to buy their space rather than renting it. We are excited that our new development at the Woodlands Enterprise Center will have spaces available for sale or for lease as well, allowing small businesses to become owners rather than tenants.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about your business that most people don’t know?
You can name the streets in new neighborhoods after friends and family.

What is one goal for your business that you have yet to accomplish?
Have something to turn over to the heirs at the end of our careers.  As a family-owned company, it is nice to be able to bring the next generation in and know that they will continue our vision after we retire.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?
We want to continue building and developing Lincoln and are excited for the city’s future. Also your readers can visit our company’s website at www.kruegerdevelopment.com.
