Tell us a little about your business. – The current day Union Bank & Trust was founded in 1917. In 1965, Union Bank & Trust was purchased by the Dunlaps, a long-time Nebraska banking family. Now, 50 years later, Union Bank is still owned and managed by the same family. The success of Union Bank is a reflection of adhering to the principles of excellent customer service, employee satisfaction, and diversification. I have worked at Union Bank for almost fourteen years and continue to admire the Company’s dedication to the Lincoln community and to its employees.

How did you get started in the business? – My career started in public accounting, working for Deloitte & Touche for approximately three years. I then took a position with a manufacturing company called American Tool, until the family owned business sold to a public company. At that point, I was fortunate to find an opportunity with Union Bank & Trust and worked my way up to Vice President and Controller. Recently, I was promoted to Vice President of Commercial Lending, where I am able to utilize both my analytical and communication skills. The opportunity to get out from behind the books and now work with customers to help them achieve their goals has been incredibly rewarding.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Passing the CPA exam in one sitting.

Tell us a little about your family. – My husband, Bryan, is also a CPA, in addition to having a law degree and being a certified valuation analyst. We are very proud of our two boys, Daniel, a senior at Pius X high school, and Thomas, a sophomore.

What is best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – When I got my first job in public accounting, the first thing my dad told me was not to be foolish with my paychecks. He told me to figure out how much I needed for bills and rent, then how much I was going to give to the church, and then put half of what was left in savings and the rest was mine to spend.
