Star City Six: Dr. Jason Stephan

Lincoln Vision Center provides vision and eye care services, a huge selection of frames and lenses and contact lenses for all ages, from infants to senior citizens. The focus of the Lincoln Vision Center team is to provide personalized, professional service using the latest in eye care technology.  Dr. Jason Stephan is one of the optometrists serving patients at Lincoln Vision Center (www.lincolnvisioncenter.com) , in addition to being one of the owners of the practice.

How did you get started in the business? – After optometry school, I worked in a retail chain environment for many years and wanted to transition to a private practice.  I joined the Lincoln Vision Center in 2009.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – The ever-changing landscape of managed vision care plans brings new challenges to what is required of doctors.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – I feel fortunate to have become an owner of the practice.

Tell us a little about your family. – My wife Lisa works at Eastmont Towers and is an avid runner.  My 13-year-old son Nick plays for the Lincoln Sox team and my 7-year-old daughter Sidney loves to dance.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Going for a drive out in the country.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I once seriously considered going to bullfighter (rodeo clown) school. Fortunately common sense stepped in and led me down another career path.

What are you the most proud of? – The fact that my kids take their education and grades seriously.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? – I would like the ability to be invisible.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – My ability to recall volumes of useless sports trivia.

Which talent would you most like to have? – I would love to be able to play the slide guitar

What is your favorite song? – ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – My all-time favorite book is Caribbean by James Michener.  I’m currently reading Life on the Mississippi by Mark Twain.

What is your favorite movie? – The Shawshank Redemption.

What is your favorite TV show? – The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross.  If you ever need to relieve some stress, this show is perfect.

What is your favorite local restaurant? – La Paz.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – Teddy Roosevelt.
