Tell us a little about your business.

Access Family Medicine is designed to be a great option for small businesses, individuals and families to have access to affordable, quality health care. Our medical services are offered for a monthly membership fee that includes all office visits, with same-day appointments available and 24/7 virtual access to your primary physician as well as wholesale pricing on medications, labs, and imaging. We do not accept insurance but this model works very well in combination with insurance coverage. Our unique way of providing services allows us to spend more time with our patients, which in turn affords us a greater understanding of their diagnosed medical conditions, treatment options, cost considerations, and other contributors to making personal health choices. With the option of virtual access, it makes getting medical care more convenient, which results in healthier, more productive employees and their families. There is really so much to tell that I can only give a teaser here!

How did you get started in the business?

I heard Dr. Todd Johnson describing the direct primary care model and how he was practicing medicine and thought to myself, “This is what I want to do!” At the time I’d been becoming increasingly frustrated with the constraints placed on how I worked with my patients in a traditional practice. Fortunately, Dr. Johnson was so successful in his first year that he was ready to expand.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?

Because I have always had a holistic approach to healthcare, previously it had been quite a challenge for me to adequately address all of a patient’s concerns and questions in the usual 10-15 minute office visit. I never liked having to tell someone to limit his/her visit to the top one or two problems. With all of the options for communication available to me now, I am no longer experiencing this challenge and can be more of an asset to my patients.

What do you like most about working at Access Family Medicine?

I love that in this setting I am able to spend time with my patients getting to the real heart of their concerns and engage them in their healthcare!

Tell us a little about your family.
