Tell us a little about your business. – Audio DNA Recording & Production is an all-purpose studio that can help you record and produce anything you need from music and radio ads, to sound design and industrial recordings. If it’s audio, we can make it happen. Seriously, try us.

How did you get started in the business? – I earned a bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from UNL and knew I wanted to make a living in music, or something related. I decided to get a degree in recording technology at McLennan Community College in Waco, TX (my home state). It was always my plan to come back up to Lincoln and start a studio. Along the way I met my friend and business partner, Alex Schneider, and here we are!

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Breaking into a scene that’s all about craftsmanship and trust when older and more experienced studios are around. Hard work and dedication to making a fantastic product has allowed us to slowly build a solid client base that keeps growing, one good reference at a time.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Playing music with my friends. I’ve been playing saxophone for sixteen years or so now, and have a degree in it. I spend so much time recording other people playing and creating their own music, I have very little time to spend making my own!

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Uncompromising. Well…that sounds a bit harsh, but I put an intense amount of effort into work and hope that my desire for making uncompromising quality products will never falter.

Which talent would you most like to have? – I’d like to be ambidextrous. Not super helpful, but it would be nice, wouldn’t it?

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – Sir Terry Pratchett’s Night Watch. Wry, dry and hilarious with a strong narrative and biting undercurrent of social criticism.

What is your favorite movie? – Toss-up between two. Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction for its brutal but beautifully down to earth narrative. The sound design, music choice and painstaking attention to detail is second to none. The other, of course, is the timeless Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back. Space opera at its finest and most defining moment along with one of the most stunning music soundtracks of all time. Ben Burtt’s sound design should be noted too. Does anyone not know what a light saber or a Tie Fighter sounds like? Classic.

What is your favorite local restaurant? – Hands down, 9 South CharGrill. It’s located near my studio and has hosted many wonderful lunches and dinners with a simply good burger, and a beer…or two.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – Stephen Fry. There are few people that seem to be so warm, kind and funny. He would be incredible company for his voice alone.
