Electronic Contracting Company began in 1958 and was incorporated in 1978 as a low voltage systems contractor.  From its corporate headquarters in Lincoln, NE, Electronic Contracting Company supervises a high-quality team of design, sales, installation, service, and support personnel in branch offices located in Kansas City, MO; Wichita, KS; and Omaha, NE.  John Dodds is the Executive Vice President of Electronic Contracting Company.

Tell us a little about your business. – Electronic Contracting Company designs, installs, and services Life Safety, Security, Communication, and Audio/Visual systems.  We take pride in our ability to custom design systems to meet the needs of our customers.  Our sales, engineers, programmers, and installation/service staff stay up-to-date with industry standards and certifications so our solutions utilize the latest technology available.

How did you get started in the business? – I became interested in the field of electronics after joining the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and receiving training in electronics.  After serving in the Army, I attended college and graduated with a degree in Electronic Engineering in 1984 and have worked for Electronic Contracting Company ever since.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Staying abreast of the latest technologies and choosing the right manufacturers and products that will best serve our customers.

Tell me a little about your family. – My wife and I will be celebrating 32 years of marriage this August and have been blessed with three children, a son and two daughters, and four grandsons.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – By beginning my career at Electronic Contracting Company – which has allowed me to experience a wide variety of positions including electronic technician, software programmer, service manager, engineering manager, vice president of operations, and executive vice president.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Anything outdoors on a beautiful day; I enjoy golfing, motorcycles, and water activities.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I enjoy scuba diving.

What are you the most proud of? – I am proud of the way my wife raised our children and how she is always there for them and the grandchildren.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – Basically, don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Integrity.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? – The power to heal.

Which talent would you most like to have? – Any kind of musical talent.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – Ross Shafer, author of Nobody Moved Your Cheese! and many other self-help books was recently a keynote speaker at a conference I attended.  Ross is an author and motivational speaker with an entertaining and enlightening point of view.

What is your favorite movie? – I enjoy most movies that are creative and original.

What is your favorite TV show? – The Colbert Report.

What is your favorite local restaurant? – Lazlo’s on 56th & Hwy 2.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – Leonardo da Vinci.
