Star City Six: Lori Fischer

Raising Cane’s is a quick-service restaurant that prides itself on serving always fresh, never frozen chicken finger meals in a fun environment. Lori Fischer is proud to have the role as the Community Coordinator for Raising Cane’s (facebook.com/CanesNebraska).

Tell us a little about your business. – In Addition to serving the highest quality chicken finger meals, being actively involved in the community is not only part of our vision, but also a part of who we are. We are thankful for the support we receive from our community and do our best to give back to the people and organizations that surround us.

How did you get started in the business? – I started at Raising Cane’s when I moved to Lincoln in 2008 to attend college at UNL. I worked in the restaurant as a cashier, fry cook and trainer for five years. After graduating, I worked at a bank for a little over a year and continued to work at Raising Cane’s a few nights during the week and on the weekends. In 2013, I accepted a full-time position as the Community Coordinator with Raising Cane’s in the Restaurant Support Office. In my role, I am able to work hand-in-hand with non-profits, schools and other organizations in our community.  Whether it is setting up in-store fundraisers, putting together a gift basket or raffle item for an organization or fulfilling sponsorship opportunities; each interaction is important to our company and community.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – At this point in my career it’s time management. I have learned a lot about prioritizing projects and how to accomplish what needs to get done on a daily and weekly basis.

Tell us a little about your family. – I grew up in Hartington, NE and come from a family of six. My parents still reside in Hartington. My dad, Marc, works for our family business, Fischer Bros. Trucking, and my mom, Dixie, works as the Parts Manager for Peitz GMC. I have two sisters: Kayla, who lives in Columbus, NE and works as an accountant at BD Medical, and Kristi, who lives in Hartington, NE and works for Petersen Ag System as the office assistant. I also have a brother who is a sophomore at Hartington-Newcastle Public School.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Crafting. I love being creative and artsy. Whether it’s putting together a wreath or tearing apart pallets to put together a shelf or table, I love it all.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I have attended over 75 concerts in my lifetime. I am always listening to music and attending concerts is one of my favorite things to do.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Friendly.

What local non-profit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – I recently joined TeamMates and have started mentoring a student at Goodrich Middle School. I want to make a difference in a child’s life and teach them at least one valuable lesson.

What is your favorite local restaurant? – Raising Cane’s! Really, I have it at least once every 10 days.
