How did you get started in the business? – My parents purchased Eagle Group in 1991, and I was their first hire. I was running the printing press after high school and while attending UNL. Since then, I have been involved with Eagle off and on gaining experience with all aspects of the business. After earning my J.D. from UNL in 2003, my wife and I moved to New Mexico where I began a career in education. I taught secondary and post-secondary until my parents were nearing retirement and we made the move back to Lincoln. I took ownership of Eagle earlier this year.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Earning my law degree was an important achievement. Although I made the decision to not practice, the experience has had a big impact on my professional life and it is something I take pride in.

Tell me a little about your family. – My wife Lori and I met in botany class while attending UNL and we have been married for nine years. My four year-old daughter Rissa loves bugs and dance class.  My two year-old daughter Kenzie loves to swing and give Rissa a hard time. My wife is a labor and delivery nurse and a wonderful mother. For me, making Eagle a successful business is all about my family and giving my daughters the opportunity to fully experience life.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – Having children has had the biggest impact on my life. Nothing is more enjoyable than having fun with my daughters.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – If we have a day off, my family and I love to go on adventures, usually to a park or zoo. We like to go canoeing or hiking. I also enjoy time around the yard and in the garden.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I am a percussionist having done some regional touring with a band. We recorded two albums as well. I also love to garden and cook.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – I strongly believe in staying positive and enjoying life. It seems like too many people complain about things. Life is too short, and there is way too much fun to be had to waste it with negativity.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – I recently finish Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan. I look forward to reading his latest book, Cooked.

What is your favorite local restaurant? – The Oven is my favorite, with Dish a close second.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – If I could a pick a person from my past it would be my older brother. We lost him when I was 15. A chance for my family to meet him is atop my “what if” list.
