Sally Jarecke has been working in the banking industry since she was a sophomore at Aurora High School.  Her marketing “break” came with Union Bank & Trust in 2005, just two months after graduating from UNL with her Finance and Marketing degree.  She is now responsible for strategic planning, project and promotion coordination for several departments of Union Bank & Trust.  She is in her 10th year at Union Bank, the last six within their marketing department.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?
My biggest challenge was passing up a great opportunity in our Trust area to pursue my first job in marketing.  It was a difficult decision, but the right one.

What has been your most important achievement professionally?
I successfully completed Union Bank & Trust’s Leadership Development Program in 2007.

Tell us a little about your family.
I live just outside of Firth with my husband Todd and our 18 month old daughter Kennedy.  One of Kennedy’s first words was “outside,” so I’m guessing that is where we will be spending most of our Spring/Summer.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?
My first marketing class at UNL.  I was always drawn to business, but I didn’t find my true passion until I discovered marketing.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?
Visiting family or friends, or going to the Lincoln Children’s Museum.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know?
My great-grandmother, 103 years old, and I wear the same size shoes – Kids 3’s!

What are you the most proud of?
My involvement with Fresh Start, and the huge difference that this organization makes in our community, one woman at a time.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
“God gave you two ears and only one mouth.  Use them accordingly.”

What is the one goal you would most like to accomplish?
To be a great mom.

How would your friends describe you?
Loyal.  My best friend and I have been friends since elementary school.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life?
My ability to relate to kids.  I love having conversations with young kids – you never know what they are going to come up with, but it’s usually hilarious!

Which talent would you most like to have?
I wish I was a great singer.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I’d add about four inches to my height.  I wouldn’t need to be tall, just a little less short.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read?
The last book I read for fun was, The Memory Keeper’s Daughter by Kim Edwards.

Simon Burch

What is your favorite TV show?
Modern Family

What is your favorite Lincoln restaurant?
9 South Chargrill.  Everything I’ve ever tried there has been fantastic.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be?
Kristi Yamaguchi – I wanted to be her when I grew up.
