NAI FMA Realty is a locally-owned full-service commercial real estate firm, offering brokerage, management and facility maintenance services. The company was incorporated in 1962 and throughout the past fifty years, they’ve prided themselves on service, market and industry knowledge, and making a meaningful impact on the community.  Scott Vyskocil is the Vice President of Property Management at NAI FMA Realty.

Tell me a little about your business. – NAI FMA currently manages, leases, and maintains over 3.3 million square feet of commercial space in Lincoln and our brokerage team averages over $40 million in sales and leasing transactions annually. Our company is a third-party brokerage firm, meaning we maintain no equity interest in properties we manage giving our clients the absolute highest levels of independent representation and service. Our affiliation with the NAI Global platform allows us to deliver the people, processes, and technologies our clients need to build their businesses not only locally but worldwide.

How did you get started in the business? – I joined a large regional mall developer out of Cleveland in 1987 (The Jacobs Group), a time when mall development and redevelopment was still on the move. This led my wife and I on a journey of relocating about every 9 to 10 months during the first 5 years of our marriage; North Carolina, Texas, back to North Carolina, Ohio, and then Nebraska – when Gateway Mall was being readied for expansion and redevelopment. I spent 17 years with the Jacobs Group, with 12 years as General Manager at Gateway Mall. I joined NAI FMA Realty in 2003.

Tell me a little about your family. – My wife Julie is with Great Western Bank.  We have been married for 27 years. My daughter Katie is going to be a sophomore at Lincoln East High School. We are originally from Cedar Rapids, IA but have lived in Lincoln for 22 years.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – Moving to Lincoln. It got us back to the Midwest, closer to home and provided us the opportunity to put down roots. Turned out we loved Lincoln and made it very easy to stick around.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Try to play golf or be outside relaxing.

What are you the most proud of? – My wife for her perseverance and being able to juggle so many things at once, as working and having no family here can make it challenging. I am especially proud of my daughter. It always amazes me on the way she handles adversity and her overall humble nature. It’s easy for me to be proud of all of my family members for many reasons.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – Knowledge does not always equate to wisdom.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? – Fly or transport – the faster the better!

Which talent would you most like to have? – The ability to write and play music really well.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – Fighter Pilot or Test Pilot.

What is your favorite TV show? – It’s a tie between Modern Family and Family Guy.

What is your favorite local restaurant? – It’s across the board from Dino’s to Vincenzo’s – too tough to name just one!
