Lancaster Rehabilitation Center (LRC) is Nebraska’s largest skilled nursing facility located at 1001 South Street. Sharon Schweitzer is the Community Relations Director at Lancaster Rehabilitation Center.

Tell us a little about your business. – Lancaster Rehabilitation Center provides all levels of skilled care service under one roof.  Our skilled services include short term rehabilitation following a surgery or acute illness, traditional long term care, and dedicated neighborhoods for memory and behavioral nursing care.

In 2010, after the facility (formerly Lancaster Manor) was purchased by Altitude Health Services, the facility received a $2.5 million dollar remodel to much of the first floor.  The new remodel includes a Husker Lounge, Bistro Café, Theater, Library, and private dining room for residents and guests.  However, most impressive is the state of the art therapy gym with the sophisticated Alter G treadmill for rehab patients.

From the moment you walk through the front door at Lancaster Rehab you will feel the difference in our home like environment, state of the art services, and a family friendly atmosphere.

Tell us a little about your family. – I am married to George Schweitzer, who I met in high school in Nebraska City, and we’ve been married for over 36 years.  We moved to Lincoln in 1996, and enjoy being a part of the community. We have two grown children; Ryan and Cori, who are both married.   We have been blessed with three grandchildren.  In my time free time I love spending time with my family.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – I am very proud of the fact that I was able to attend weekend classes at the College of St. Mary’s for eight years while I worked a full-time position and was raising a young family.  I eventually received my Bachelor’s degree May of 2005.  This has allowed me to further my career in the human services field, and advance myself professionally.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – My mother would always tell me to “live life to the fullest”.  She emphasized that I shouldn’t waste my time stressing over the little things, and to enjoy all the blessings I was afforded.  It’s a motto I’ve tried to instill with my children as well.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – When I have time I like to bake and make crafts. I also enjoy making jewelry for myself and as gifts for friends and family.  It’s therapeutic and relaxing.

What is your favorite movie? – My all-time favorite movie would have to be Titanic!  It is a movie that I can watch time and time again, and always feel the emotion of the history and romance of the story being told.

What is your favorite local restaurant? – LaPaz Mexican Restaurant.  Not only do I enjoy the atmosphere and food, but I often will order it for the hospital discharge planner luncheons that we host on a routine basis.  Everyone seems to always love the local favorites that Lincoln has to offer.

If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so? –  That’s easy!  Readers are welcome to contact me at the Lancaster Rehabilitation Center main number which is (402) 441-7101, or on my cell at (402) 937-2514.  They can also look us up on our web site at www.lancasterrc.com or email me at admit@lancasterrc.com.
