Meet Erica Vossler, a CPA at SP Group, P.C.
Tell us a little about your business. – SP Group, P.C. (spgrouppc.com) is a local accounting firm that provides tax planning, preparation, business startup services, estate and trust preparation, QuickBooks support and training, payroll setup and reporting, business entity selection, IRS representation, and assurance services. We have a great balance of competitiveness and teamwork within our office. Not only does this add a little fun in the office, but it builds a stronger team. This cohesiveness gives us the ability to help our clients meet their financial goals and, ultimately, celebrate their growth and successes alongside them.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Tax season during a pandemic…March of 2020 hit all businesses in different ways. For me, the challenge was to be sent home with hardware in hand anticipating it would be a few weeks. Little did we know it would be a seven month challenge that forced us to finish tax season in our home offices/kitchens/spare bedrooms/etc. It was a difficult period but because of the support of our strong team, we were able to overcome these unique circumstances and have a successful tax season.
What has been your most important achievement professionally? – My biggest professional goal was passing all four CPA exams right after graduating with my master’s degree from UNL. Thankfully, I was able to achieve this goal before starting my first tax season as a full-time employee.
Tell us a little about your family. – I grew up in small town, Exeter, NE with a population of about 700 people. My husband Brady and I have been married for a little over two years and we have a mini-goldendoodle pup, Sully, who keeps us pretty busy. My parents still live in Exeter where my mom has worked at the high school for 37 years and my dad was the owner of our hometown grocery store for over 20 years. I have two older brothers—Anthony is a store director and lives in Portland, OR and Travis is an insurance agent and lives in Milligan, NE with his family. I am very blessed to be an aunt to six littles who create so much joy in my life. They definitely make our family gatherings more interesting (and a little louder).
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – I like to read a good book or try a new recipe. If I’m able to have a few days off in a row, I’d prefer to hop on a plane and go somewhere new!
Who inspires you? – My family. They are all hardworking people, and I have always looked up to each and every one of them.
If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Loyal.
What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – I am pretty good at Wordle.
Which talent would you most like to have? – The ability to properly fold a fitted sheet.
If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – A veterinarian.
What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – I recently started reading the Harry Potter series for the first time.
What is your favorite movie? – Mr. Deeds.
What is your favorite local restaurant? – Vincenzo’s Ristorante.
If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – Adam Sandler.
