There is so much that goes into our daily and long-term health.  Depending on your lifestyle, your family history, your age and a hundred other factors, the areas you may need to focus on can encompass a broad range.  In this article, we will focus on two areas that are important to most men: exercise and oral health.  While this of course is no means a comprehensive list of topics, focusing on these two issues will undoubtedly help many men improve or maintain their health.

Exercise

“Men who want improve their strength, speed, endurance, and flexibility know they can accomplish this through exercise,” explains Dave Kentopp with Anytime Fitness. “However, they might not be aware of the many other benefits of working out.

“Exercise can lower blood pressure and cholesterol. Working out also boosts testosterone levels, which in turn improves sex drive, energy level, and memory. Other benefits include stress reduction, better mood and attitude, fewer aches and pains, and a more youthful feeling. Heart health, weight control, and the lowering of the risk of diabetes, cancers, and arthritis are big reasons to make a regular, structured exercise program part of any man’s lifestyle.”

“The Center for Disease Control recommends 150 minutes per week or 30 minutes a day of moderate exercise, involving sports or aerobic exercise equipment such as treadmills, ellipticals, and stair steppers,” continues Dave. “Strength training two or more times per week should target arms, legs, shoulders, back, chest, and abs. Free weights and circuit machines are perfect for this. More than just building muscles, strength training also helps burn calories more effectively and helps prevent osteoporosis.”

Those who exercise experience a number of health benefits as well as improved appearance.  It’s key for any man who wants to age healthfully.

Oral Health

Oral health is not only important to keep a man’s teeth in great shape, but it can also affect their health as a whole as oral disease can cause other problems in other parts of the body.

Of course, brushing, flossing and seeing your dentist for regular check-ups and cleanings are extremely important portions of oral health.  However, sometimes issues still arise and the need to see an oral surgeon materializes.  This can happen in the case of extraction of wisdom teeth, dental implant procedures, reconstruction of facial bone deformities caused by tumors or trauma and extraction of impacted teeth.  Finding the right oral surgeon to take care of these needs is key.

Dr. Andrew Glenn is a local oral surgeon who was raised in Lincoln, educated in Kansas City, and trained in a wide variety of contemporary Oral and Maxillofacial procedures, including sedation and general anesthesia, dentoalveolar surgery, dental implants and bone grafting and corrective jaw surgery.

Dr. Glenn is involved in numerous professional local, state, as well as national dental and medical societies. He works part time in the Oral Surgery department at the dental school in Lincoln, and regularly attends scientific and educational meetings in his field.
Dr Glenn’s experience, continued training and skilled staff make him an excellent choice should you need any oral surgery.

Keeping healthy is important to every man so that he can maintain his career, family and other interests.  Though there are many other aspects to a comprehensive healthy lifestyle, focusing on the proper amount of exercise and taking good care of their oral health is an excellent place to start.
