BBB Rewards Work That Changes the Game at 2016 Integrity Awards Luncheon

The Better Business Bureau (BBB; bbbinc.org) will be recognizing Omaha’s ethical businesses and remarkable students at its 21st Annual Integrity Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Embassy Suites Omaha – La Vista Conference Center from 11:30 am –1:00 pm.

The keynote speaker is Dr. Bennet Omalu, the first doctor to discover and diagnose chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) in athletes and in veterans. He will share his story of coming to the U.S. as an immigrant from war-torn Nigeria and his journey to becoming the physician who revolutionized neuroscience, sports medicine and safety, and the entire sports industry. The recent movie “Concussion” (starring Will Smith) details the challenges Omalu faced to ensure that the truth—and risk—of chronic brain damage was known, understood, accepted and prevented. In fact, UNL’s Center for Brain, Biology and Behavior (CB3) and UNMC are now national leaders in concussion research and its effects on human behavior as a result of Omalu’s discovery.

Dr. Omalu will be introduced by Clete Blakeman, a former Cornhusker quarter back and the honorary chairman of the event. Mr. Blakeman is a Personal Injury Attorney at Carlson & Burnett in Omaha and is also a professional referee. He served as Crew Chief at Super Bowl 50. His uniform number is 34.

This event is open to the public and the entire community is invited to attend. Individual reservations, tables for 10 and sponsorships are available. To make your reservations to hear Dr. Omalu’s moving account of his “courage under fire” and his triumph in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds, go to bbbinc.org.
