BBB Shares Holiday Marketing Tips for Small Businesses

The Better Business Bureau (BBB; bbb.org/nebraska) knows it can be difficult for small businesses to compete against big-box stores and retail giants during the holiday season. That’s why they shared various tools and tips to help these businesses creatively promote their products or services:

Advertise custom-made products or services—Many small businesses sell products or services that can’t be found in typical retail stores. Determine what you sell or offer that others don’t, and advertise them. Also, be sure to highlight your holiday specials or packages on all of your business directory listings, including bbb.org.

Get creative with your messaging—People will likely be shopping for their husbands, wives, children, or other family members and friends. What product or service do you sell and who would it make a great gift for? Promote these items or services on social media, and in your email newsletters with taglines like “Still need a gift for Dad?” or “Last-minute shopping for Mom?”

Host a canned food drive or contribute to a local charity—Engage with new and existing customers by showing them that you care about the local community; donate your time, money, or even host a local canned food or clothing drive. Share your efforts on social media and in your email marketing.

Use email marketing—There are many inexpensive email marketing services. You can find 10 best picks at business.com/categories/best-email-marketing-services.
