Nebraska Community Foundation Offers Free Tax-Wise Charitable Giving Resources
Nebraska Community Foundation (NCF; www.nebcommfound.org) offers an abundance of free resources for tax-wise charitable giving. NCF’s website (nebcommfound.giftlegacy.com) explores numerous giving methods like the IRA Charitable Rollover, gifts of grain and livestock, real estate, life insurance policies, appreciated stocks or mutual funds, and more. Online gift planning calculators will help illustrate the income and tax benefits of a variety of gift types. Furthermore, NCF provides the most up-to-date information on new laws and legislation affecting charitable giving.
One example of useful current information on the webpage concerns The SECURE Act, effective January 1, 2020, which made several changes to qualified retirement plans that impact charitable giving:
- The age at which required minimum distributions must be taken was pushed back from 70.5 to 72 years old, but the age at which qualified charitable distributions can be made is still 70.5.
- The “Stretch IRA” has been eliminated for most heirs, making IRAs an expensive inheritance.
NCF works with generous Nebraskans and their financial advisors every day to meet their charitable giving goals. For more information, contact Nebraska Community Foundation’s Office of Gift Planning (402) 323-7330 / info@nebcommfound.org.
