This summer the students of Tiger Rock Academy demonstrated the ancient martial arts tradition of balancing physical skill with knowledge. Students participated in the challenge throughout the entire summer and recorded the number of minutes they invested in themselves by reading each week. There were some suggested readings, but no “assignments”. Students were free to read on topics of their choosing.
Students from age 4 to 60+ turned in the number of minutes they read each week to be accumulated. Individual and group running totals were then kept and posted at all of Tiger Rock’s locations throughout the summer. By the end of the summer, over 50,000 minutes were tallied from Tiger Rock’s martial arts students! Top readers that were recognized at an awards ceremony and awarded prizes include: ages 4-6: Quentin Ristow, Isabell Ristow, Jackson Lipka; ages 7-11: Tyler Dodd, Emily Dodd, Samantha Reed; ages 12-15: David Leffler, Maresa Searls, Sarah Hammons; and adults: Ashley Peiman, Scott Craig and Barry Hoover.
Tiger Rock Instructors believe that developing well-rounded individuals is more than just physical skill and work, but also to develop an appreciation for learning and a pursuit of knowledge in their students. For more information on Tiger Rock Academy, call 402-483-1011
