National Travel and Tourism Week, (NTTW) (ustravel.org) shines a spotlight on the U.S. travel industry’s essential role in driving economic growth, creating jobs and enhancing the nation’s global competitiveness.

This year’s week is held May 4-10. Since 1983, NTTW has underscored the travel industry’s contribution to U.S. economic strength, community vitality and quality of life. In 2024, the travel industry generated $2.9 trillion in economic output, supported more than 15 million jobs and produced $190 billion in tax revenue, equivalent to $1,490 per household.

“Lincoln as a community remains an attractive place for travelers to explore as they visit attractions, patronize local businesses and connect with the amazing people in our community,” says Jeff Maul, Executive Director-Vice President of Visit Lincoln. “By enhancing our tourism skyline with added attractions and venues such as the Sandhills Global Youth Complex and the eventual Downtown Lincoln Convention Center, this continued investment in building Lincoln as a tourism destination will have positive impacts on our community for generations to come,” Maul concludes.

Travel spending also generated nearly $89 billion in state and local tax revenue to support essential services like education, emergency response, public safety and more. Travel is essential to every community, industry and the U.S. economy as a whole.

“Travel is one of our nation’s most powerful economic engines— supporting millions of jobs, fueling businesses and propelling industries forward,” said U.S. Travel Association President and CEO Geoff Freeman. “National Travel and Tourism Week reinforces the pivotal role travel plays in building a stronger, more prosperous America.”

During National Travel and Tourism Week, the Visit Lincoln social media accounts will highlight attractions and locations across the community.
