American Heart Association Provides Holiday Hacks, Healthy Tips for Eat Smart Month

In recognition of Eat Smart Month in November, the American Heart Association (AHA, heart.org/Lincoln) will provide 30 days of holiday hacks to inspire simple but important healthy habits. As an example of four healthy tips for the holiday season, AHA suggests reducing sodium by adding more herbs and spices to your food; avoid overindulging in holiday meals by prepping with nutritious snacks; shop smart by looking for the American Heart Association Heart-Check mark on products; and mind your mind by finding moments throughout the season to practice gratitude, meditate, and relish the time. Managing stress is good for your head and your heart! Keep yourself on track and access the daily AHA hacks and tips by texting DAILYHACK to 51555!

“It’s easy to get off track from making healthy choices during the holidays, and the pandemic may add to the stress,” said Anne Thorndike, MD, MPH, and chair of the AHA Nutrition Committee. “Eating healthfully during the holidays doesn’t mean depriving yourself; it’s about eating smart and looking for small, healthy changes and swaps you can make so you continue to feel your best. For example, choosing vegetables instead of crackers or chips at lunch may not seem like much, but those little changes add up over time.”

The American Heart Association is a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives and is dedicated to ensuring equitable health in all communities.
