HopeSpoke Demonstrates Importance of Mental Health Services Through Storytelling

HopeSpoke (hopespoke.org) recently shared the story of sixth-grade student Allen (name changed to protect client confidentiality) to demonstrate how their services are imperative, especially during these volatile times. When Allen started sixth grade in 2019, he quickly experienced some difficulty with peers and curriculum. These difficulties escalated, translating into more defiant behaviors, including suspensions and the need for greater intervention.

In addition to the school concerns Allen was facing, his family also had become involved with the Department of Health and Human Services for concerns about neglect. As it turned out, Allen had been dealing with his mother’s mental-health concerns for quite some time and initially struggled to open up about his experiences. After using HopeSpoke’s services, Allen’s willingness to engage has improved, and the HopeSpoke team is eager to help him resume school goals in the fall, as they grow their therapeutic relationship.
