High school blood drives are back in session for the Nebraska Community Blood Bank (NCBB), with Mead High School kicking things off on August 27.

This year, NCBB is encouraging students to “keep the beat alive” by donating blood. Many schools are already on the schedule to host a blood drives and hopes are high for another record breaking year!

Since 2004, the NCBB High School Scholarship Program has been awarding scholarship funds to high schools based on the success of their blood drive(s). Last school year, students from 21 high schools in southeast Nebraska rolled up their sleeves to help area patients through blood donation, as well as to provide scholarship funds to their school.  In May, NCBB awarded nearly 30,000 dollars in scholarships with all participating schools receiving funds.
