The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Lincoln residents to unite in a movement to reclaim the future for millions by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Holmes Lake will be the site of Walk on Sunday, September 15th with the event starting at noon and the Walk at 1:00 p.m. Walk to End Alzheimer’s is more than a walk. It is an experience for close to 1000 participants in Lincoln who will learn about Alzheimer’s disease and how to get involved with this critical cause, from advocacy opportunities, the latest in Alzheimer’s research and clinical trial enrollment to support programs and services.
Alzheimer’s disease is a growing epidemic and is now the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death. As baby boomers age, the number of individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease will rapidly escalate, increasing well beyond today’s more than 5 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s. In addition to the 2.4 mile walk route (with a short route available as well) the Walk will incorporate several new things in 2013 to make it a family friendly event: bounce houses and face painting for kids, and a completely handicapped accessible location. Lunch will be provided at noon from Runza and other generous sponsors, and Pepsi is providing water, all free of charge. Back for a second year is the Promise Garden, where each participant in the Walk will get a flower that will be part of a moving pre-event ceremony. Complete Music is again providing musical entertainment, and musician Daniel Christian will perform after the Walk. Our sponsors have once again made it possible for participants to receive valuable information, and also register to win prizes, including a Samsung tablet from Sam’s Club, and a grill from WalMart. Start or join a team today at alz.org/walk.
