Approximately 65 guests and staff gathered at Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach (MTKO) on Saturday August 31st to enjoy a special “Brunch in the Garden” event and celebrate the opening of MTKO’s new Transitions House for Women. Guests toured the vegetable and flower garden at MTKO and enjoyed a delightful morning of homemade quiche, fresh fruit, and dill and zucchini breads made with ingredients from MTKO’s Hope Garden. A short program featured comments from MTKO Executive Director Susanne Blue, MTKO Nutrition Coordinator Janet Buck, and MTKO’s Clinical Social Worker Ken Mausbach. Matt Talbot currently has a Transitions House for men is and is excited to be expanding programming to include a Transitions House for women. The women’s program will house five women who are transitioning from chronic homelessness and addiction to a stable living environment. Intensive case management services will be provided to participants to address barriers to remaining housed, increase self-sufficiency, and realize the goal of permanent housing.
Serving lunch and dinner seven days a week, Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach is a hunger relief and outreach center for those in need. Last year Matt Talbot provided 102,897 nutritious meals to the hungry in Lincoln and provided over 21,000 homeless prevention services such as vision clinics, drug & alcohol evaluations, life skills classes, nutrition counseling, and help with obtaining vital identification documents.
