Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska Accepts Garden Produce for Food Pantry

As summer winds down and you are blessed with an abundant garden harvest, Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska (cssisus.org) is accepting produce donations for their food pantry. So, if you are one of those with an especially green thumb and find yourself with corn coming out of your “ears” or more cucumbers than your neighbors can help you eat up, they’re happy to take them off of your hands. The families and individuals who go to Catholic Social Services generally have especially limited access to fresh produce, so donating fruits and vegetables is an excellent way to provide essential nutrients for others who are in need.

Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska is a nonprofit agency of the Catholic Diocese of Lincoln and traces back to 1932, when Bishop Louis Kucera founded it to respond to the needs of people suffering the effects of the Great Depression. Their mission is to perform the Works of Mercy in response to the call of God, including providing food, clothing, shelter, and counseling to those in need. Working together, their goal is to bring “Hope in the Good Life” to those they serve. In 2019 alone, they served 27,670 people and provided cash and in-kind assistance in southern Nebraska valued at more than $1.83 million.
