Each year, Jim Carveth, owner of The Bike Rack, donates bikes to the children of CEDARS. This year there was a special request from CEDARS, a bike for a double amputee. Due to a tragic accident when he was a toddler, eighth-grader Lamonte is unable to do something most take for granted; walk. The boy who had recently been under CEDARS’ care finally received a specially made bike October 29, after months of searching for a bike to fit.
Through a donation from Carveth, The Bike Rack, and Ambucs, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to creating mobility and independence for people with disabilities, Lamonte received a brand new Amtryke recumbent bicycle. Tanzania Pillow, Lamonte’s mother, has been thankful since the generous gift to see her son playing with the other kids in the neighborhood. Without CEDARS, Bike Rack and Ambucs this would not have been possible.
CEDARS is a private, non-profit child caring organization focused on improving the lives of abused, neglected and otherwise vulnerable children and their families. It has a 62 year tradition of providing safety and security for Nebraska’s children. For more information, visit www.cedarskids.org.
