COVID Escalates Need for Friendship Home’s Services for Domestic Violence Victims

With escalating stresses burdening families during COVID, the need for Friendship Home’s (friendshiphome.org) crisis services, emergency shelter, and transitional housing for victims of domestic violence and their children is likely escalated, but victims are isolated at home with their abusers and can’t always get away to make the call they need. In this time when most of us are finding comfort and safety at home, for many people, home is the most dangerous place on earth, because domestic violence doesn’t stop for COVID-19. Friendship Home’s shelter doors and crisis line are open and available 24/7.

In an effort to protect the safety of their staff and volunteers, Friendship Home has been forced to cancel, postpone, or modify fundraisers and events aimed at empowering freedom from domestic violence. But the nonprofit organization is appreciative of continued support. The need for safe emergency shelter and essential everyday items that are critical to the more than 1,500 women and children they serve each year, has not changed.

The Friendship Home exists to support, shelter, and advocate for victims of domestic violence and their children. They provide crisis intervention services, case management, and emotional support to victims. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, call their crisis line at (402) 437-9302.
