More than 225 benefactors, alumni and special guests gathered at Pius X High School on Sunday, August 3 to celebrate and honor the generous support of all who share a deep commitment to Catholic education. The annual Friends of Pius X appreciation reception held at the school’s commons featured the presentation of three special awards for exemplary leadership, service and achievement.
On hand to receive the 2014 Distinguished Stewardship Award were Tom and Rhonda Peed of Lincoln. Founders of Sandhills Publishing, the Peeds were acknowledged as long-time supporters of Pius X and Catholic schools throughout the Lincoln diocese, contributing an extraordinary amount of time, talent, and treasure through building construction, matching grant programs, teacher pay enhancements, and other funding.
The 2014 Outstanding Alumni Award was presented to Class of 1966 alumnus William C. Mobley, MD, PhD. Dr. Mobley currently serves as a Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Neurosciences at University of California – San Diego (UCSD). He also serves as Executive Director of UCSD’s Down Syndrome Center for Research and Treatment and is the Florence Riford Chair of Alzheimer Disease Research.
