As garage sale season approaches, Goodwill Industries Serving Southeast Nebraska, Inc. (lincolngoodwill.org) is inviting Lincoln neighborhoods to participate in their 13th Annual Neighborhood Challenge. This event motivates neighbors to donate unsold items from their garage sales, all while competing for a chance to enhance their community.

Participating neighborhoods will receive a free, centralized pickup service for donations following spring and summerwide garage sales. After the donations are collected, Goodwill will weigh them, and by the end of the summer, the three neighborhoods with the greatest weight of donations exceeding 2,000 pounds will earn a cash prize to support local community improvements.

Donating to Goodwill not only helps clean out your home but also supports Goodwill’s mission to transform lives through the power of work. The proceeds from Goodwill’s thrift stores in Lincoln help fund local job training programs that assist people in overcoming barriers to employment. Additionally, many items that cannot be sold are recycled to reduce waste.

To participate, neighborhoods can sign up by emailing donate@lincolngoodwill.org or calling (402) 438-2022 to schedule a preferred time, date and pickup location. Please note that all pickups must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance, and Goodwill recommends signing up early as slots tend to fill quickly.

For 93 years, Goodwill Industries Serving Southeast Nebraska, Inc. has been dedicated to strengthening the Lincoln community through services for individuals facing employment barriers, while providing a year-round outlet for donating clothes, electronics and household goods.
