The Junior League of Lincoln welcomed 28 new members and 3 transferring members during their September 8, 2014 general membership meeting to kick off their 2014-2015 program year. In total, 105 members will serve the Lincoln community through volunteering, leadership, and fundraising for local non-profits this year.
The primary project for the new members will be working at The Daisy Thrift Shop for Fresh Start, a transitional shelter for homeless women. Active members also provide life skill workshops for Fresh Start. Other Junior League projects for the year include an after-school snack program and middle and high school etiquette classes for the Lighthouse; The Prom Closet; Junior Achievement, and the Sheldon docent program. In addition, the Junior League’s signature project, Clothesline, stocks and maintains free clothes at ten local middle and high schools. All community partners receive funding to assist with the projects. The Junior League also provided funding to the YWCA’s Smart Girls Program and Voices of Hope. In total, The Junior League will donate a total of $14,750 to community agencies in 2014.
