The LUX Center for the Arts, located in historic University Place, celebrated the first 100 years of its building with over 70 members of the community at the High Tea Party on April 13th. The event celebrated the building as the present-day home of the LUX Center and the building’s importance to the community.
Speakers and special guests included local historian Ed Zimmer, Mayor Chris Beutler, Nebraska Wesleyan University President Fred Ohles, the Honorable Coleen Seng, Councilman Doug Emery, Councilman Carl Eskridge and Councilwoman Leirion Gaylor Baird. Guest speakers commented on the building’s history and the LUX Center’s mission to enhance the lives of a diverse public through the visual arts by providing learning opportunities. These opportunities include art classes, residence programs, gallery exhibitions, and community outreach.
Treats and wine were provided by Butterfly Bakery, The Italian Vine, Mo Java Café, Whole Foods Lincoln, and Paramount Linen and Uniform Rental. Flowers were donated by Jack Saltzman.
LUX Center for the Arts is free and open to the public. Hours: Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the first Friday of each month, 11a.m. to 8 p.m. For more information about the LUX Center for the Arts visit www.luxcenter.org
