Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Nebraska, alongside the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska State Patrol kicked off the 2012 holiday drunk driving crackdown during a December 7th wet lab and press conference.

MADD will be reminding Nebraska residents to plan ahead for a safe way home if they are planning to drink alcohol during the season’s festivities. MADD’s annual Tie One On For Safety campaign, sponsored by National Presenting Sponsor Nationwide Insurance, urges drivers to display a red ribbon on their cars in support of law enforcement crackdown efforts and as a pledge to drive safe and sober all holiday season long.

The time period between Thanksgiving and New Year’s includes some of the most dangerous days for drunk driving deaths. Nationally, in 2010, more than 10,000 people were killed and another 345,000 were injured in drunk driving crashes throughout the year.
